Welcome to the Brew News page. This is where I will try to keep you all updated on what is going on here at Como Brew. It may also contain random thoughts and commentary that I add from time to time when I get bored.
Okay, these are not Como Brews, but it gives me something to strive for... the highest ABV I have been able to attain so far is 11%

I discovered that I have a new brew assistant last night. Gregory helped me brew a nice Belgian Style Tripel last night and was a big help, as you can see here.
So now I just have to think up a clever name for the brew that has something to do with the assistant. Hmmmm.......

The big blizzard barleywine (working title) was brewed the night following the first wave for the February 2010 blizzard. While shoveling earlier in the day I was sure to clear out a place for my outdoor burner first.
This should be a good one! Check out the details here.

I think I am off to a pretty good start this year with two brews in January. I am trying to think ahead a little bit this year... I am actually going to have a Stout redy for St. Pat's. Woo Hoo!

I brewed a really big Imperial IPA today, while simultaniously making baby food. Hope I did not mix up any of the ingredients. ;)
This should be an awesomely hoppy beer since I added 1 pound of hops so far. I may even dry hop with some leftovers... sure yet.

Okay, I decided to add one more brew to the 2009 holiday collection. I got a recipe for an awesome Belgian IPA from my friendly neighborhood brewer as a birthday present and decided to throw it into the mix. Should be done just in time and if everything turns out well, this year I will have 6 different varieties. Nice.

I brewed the last of the 2009 holiday ales tonight and it should be done just in time for Christmas. I am not sure the actual "Holiday Ale" that I brewed a few weeks ago is going to turn out this year, but I still have plenty of other options to fill out the holiday collection just in case. See you at Christmas time.

Just bottled The Bourbonator tonight and had the first official tasting, which can be summed up in teo words: Mmmmmm.... Whiskey. This is some good stuff with a very strong bourbon flavor so it might not be for everyone, but if you like whiskey this its the stuff for you!

I am most two-thirds of the way through my holiday brewing and I am happy to say that this is going to be a good year. All of the brews will be all-grain and most of them are high gravity and high alcohol... make sure each dsignated drinker has a designated driver lined up this year! Also, the boys helped out with the brewing this year.

Alright, I received two huge boxes from UPS the other day that I was very excited about. One contained my 10-gallon brew pot and the other contained ingredients for two new recipes. All-Grain brewing, here I come!
